Mons pubis correction
The mons pubis is the area above the genitals, over the pubic bone. In some people it accumulates fatty tissue that does not go away with weight loss, and after major weight loss or with age the skin of this area loosens and sags towards the genitals.
What concerns does it address?
What is done?
When the problem is fatty tissue, it is removed by liposuction through a puncture of a few millimetres. When the skin is loose, the excess is cut away and the area lifted (a lift), with a scar running horizontally along the line of the lower edge of the abdomen — often in the same procedure as a tummy tuck.
In men and in women
The procedure is done in both sexes. In men, a prominent mons pubis hides part of the penis and reduces its visible length; in women it is most often part of a correction after childbirth or weight loss.
When is the procedure not suitable?
Liposuction alone is not planned when the skin of the mons is loose or overlapping — in that case liposuction would leave excess skin, so a lift of the mons is needed, alone or together with liposuction. It is not done until body weight is stable.
General reasons for postponing a procedure (pregnancy, breastfeeding, inflammation, a clotting disorder, smoking): When is a procedure postponed?
Anaesthesia
Before a procedure under general or regional anaesthesia, you are seen by the anaesthetist, who works full time at the clinic; the same doctor is also present during the procedure. The anaesthetic assessment and the anaesthesia for larger operations are included in the price of the procedure. What happens before, during and after anaesthesia is described on the Anaesthesia page.
Risks
Occasional — temporarily reduced skin sensation, unevenness after liposuction that smooths out, collection of fluid.

Specialist and team
Specialty: plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery, and urology.
When the procedure is done under sedation or general anaesthesia, the anaesthesia is led by a specialist in anaesthesiology, resuscitation and intensive care who works full time at the clinic.
In the operating theatre, the surgeon is assisted by head nurse Martina Šereg, with the help of nurses Kristina Jurešić and Mateja Tomorad, and in recovery the care assistant Mirjana Kovačić is with you. Martina also looks after preparation, scheduling and contact after the procedure.
Who will operate is decided at the examination, based on the findings and the type of procedure. You know the name of the surgeon before the procedure and meet them at the examination.
What happens at the examination?
The first examination lasts 30 to 45 minutes on average. The surgeon examines the area you are concerned about, asks about illnesses, medicines, allergies and previous operations, and talks with you about what you expect. If the procedure is appropriate and likely to help, you receive a plan: which procedure is proposed, under which anaesthesia, what recovery looks like and what is included in the price. If the procedure is not needed or would not give you what you expect, you will hear that at the examination too.
What if the result is not as agreed?
The result of a procedure is assessed at a follow-up visit, once the swelling has gone down and the scar has matured, not in the first weeks. If it differs from what was agreed at the examination, the same surgeon carries out the correction.

In the same visit
- Tummy tuck — in women, a lift of the mons is often done in the same procedure as a tummy tuck, with the scar in the same line.
- Penis girth enhancement — in men, fat tissue from the mons is used to increase penis girth, in the same procedure.
- Penis lengthening — a build-up of fat above the base of the penis shortens its visible part, so the mons is shaped together with the lengthening, in the same procedure.
Frequently asked questions
How does the mons “hide” the penis? Fatty tissue above the base of the penis buries the first part of it, so the visible part looks shorter — especially when sitting and at higher body weight. When the mons is reduced, the base is freed and the penis looks longer without any procedure on the penis itself.
Liposuction or lift? Liposuction when the skin is good — through punctures, without an incision. A lift when there is excess skin or it overlaps: the excess is removed through an incision in the lower abdomen, where underwear covers it, and the mons is lifted. Often both.
What does recovery look like? After liposuction a compression garment — firm boxer shorts — is worn for at least three weeks; bruising and swelling last up to two weeks. After a lift the stitches are removed in ten to fourteen days, and physical exertion and intercourse are put off for four to six weeks.
How much does the result depend on care after the procedure? The larger the procedure, the more it depends on it, but it always does. Healing takes weeks and months and happens almost entirely at home, so the instructions you receive when you go home, about the wound, physical activity and the scar, are part of the procedure, not a recommendation.
