Breast asymmetry correction
Asymmetry correction evens out breasts that differ in size, height or shape. The most common combination is an implant in the smaller breast and a lift of the other, but the route depends on what the difference is.
Breast asymmetry
One breast is larger, lower or a different shape from the other — and this shows both in a bra and without one. Two breasts are almost never exactly the same: they develop separately and react differently to hormones, pregnancy and breastfeeding. The difference can be in size, height, shape, the position of the nipple or the shape of the chest wall beneath the breast. In some women it is visible only to them, in some it calls for a different bra for each side.
How is the technique chosen?
The smaller breast can be enlarged with an implant or with your own fatty tissue; the larger one can be reduced or lifted. When the difference is in the position of the nipple or the size of the areola, that is what is corrected. Two different implants in the two breasts are also an option. What makes sense becomes clear at the examination — and how similar the breasts will be after the procedure is discussed openly.
When is the procedure not suitable?
In young women, correction is not planned until the breasts are fully developed — in most, after the age of eighteen. A difference that has appeared recently, on one side, with hardness or a change in the skin, is first assessed by a breast specialist; correction is planned with a normal ultrasound. If you are planning a pregnancy, the order is discussed — breastfeeding can change the relationship between the sides again.
General reasons for postponing a procedure (pregnancy, breastfeeding, inflammation, a clotting disorder, smoking): When is a procedure postponed?
Anaesthesia
Before a procedure under general or regional anaesthesia, you are seen by the anaesthetist, who works full time at the clinic; the same doctor is also present during the procedure. The anaesthetic assessment and the anaesthesia for larger operations are included in the price of the procedure. What happens before, during and after anaesthesia is described on the Anaesthesia page.
Risks
Occasional — a collection of fluid (seroma) or blood (haematoma) that is drained with a needle, slower healing of part of the wound, asymmetry that needs correction.

Specialist and team
Specialty: plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery.
When the procedure is done under sedation or general anaesthesia, the anaesthesia is led by a specialist in anaesthesiology, resuscitation and intensive care who works full time at the clinic.
In the operating theatre, the surgeon is assisted by head nurse Martina Šereg, with the help of nurses Kristina Jurešić and Mateja Tomorad, and in recovery the care assistant Mirjana Kovačić is with you. Martina also looks after preparation, scheduling and contact after the procedure.
Who will operate is decided at the examination, based on the findings and the type of procedure. You know the name of the surgeon before the procedure and meet them at the examination.
What happens at the examination?
The first examination lasts 30 to 45 minutes on average. The surgeon examines the area you are concerned about, asks about illnesses, medicines, allergies and previous operations, and talks with you about what you expect. If the procedure is appropriate and likely to help, you receive a plan: which procedure is proposed, under which anaesthesia, what recovery looks like and what is included in the price. If the procedure is not needed or would not give you what you expect, you will hear that at the examination too.
What if the result is not as agreed?
The result of a procedure is assessed at a follow-up visit, once the swelling has gone down and the scar has matured, not in the first weeks. If it differs from what was agreed at the examination, the same surgeon carries out the correction.

- Areola and nipple correction — a difference in the position of the nipple or the size of the areola is corrected in the same procedure.
Frequently asked questions
How big a difference is "normal"? Almost all women have some difference between the breasts — in volume, position or shape. It is corrected when the difference is visible in clothes, when a bra does not fit or when it bothers you; there is no number that determines this.
Implant or fatty tissue? For a smaller difference and when you want a natural feel without foreign material — fatty tissue, in one or two sessions. For a larger difference or when both sides are enlarged by different volumes — implants of different sizes.
Will the breasts be exactly the same? No. The aim is a difference that does not show in a bra and clothes, not perfect symmetry — that does not exist naturally either. The tissue on the two sides heals differently.
What about tubular (narrow, elongated) breasts? This is a special form of asymmetry and shape; it is corrected by releasing the tight tissue and reshaping, often with an implant. It is more demanding and is planned separately.
Will I need two different implants? Often yes. When both breasts are enlarged, implants of different volumes are chosen so as to even out the difference. A difference of 30 to 60 millilitres between the sides is usual and is not noticeable from outside.
Are both breasts done in the same procedure? As a rule yes, because that is the only way to compare during the procedure. When only one breast is corrected, the other is not touched, but the result is judged against it.
Can the asymmetry come back? The breasts continue to change with weight, pregnancy, breastfeeding and the years, and not necessarily equally on both sides. A small difference can return over time; a large one does not.
How much does the result depend on care after the procedure? The larger the procedure, the more it depends on it, but it always does. Healing takes weeks and months and happens almost entirely at home, so the instructions you receive when you go home, about the wound, physical activity and the scar, are part of the procedure, not a recommendation.
Who is with me if I stay overnight in the clinic after the procedure? You stay overnight when the doctor judges it necessary and this is agreed with you. You then spend the night in a room in the recovery unit, which has a bed, a television and a bathroom. A nurse is with you all night and a doctor is on call. The overnight stay and night care are included in the price of the procedure.
